Central Coast Section Division I finals
Saturday's game
No. 11 Alvarez (10-6-4) vs. No. 8 Lincoln (16-4-3) at Los Gatos, 7 p.m.
As lower seeds, both teams needed to win three games to reach the title game. For Alvarez, it will be its first ever finals appearance after it knocked off three higher seeded teams.
Conditions for this game are expected to be awful with arguably the biggest storm of the year hitting California, with heavy wind and rain projected in the Los Gatos mountains.
Assuming the game is on, all three of the Eagles wins in the playoffs have been by a goal, including a shootout in the quarterfinals last Saturday to extend their season.
Goals from Luis Andrade and Omar Aguilar in the first half in the semifinals erased a 1-0 deficit for Alvarez against Christopher. Ricardo Soza has been a sniper all season for the Eagles.
Champions of the Santa Teresa Division of the BVAL, the Lions have outscored three postseason opponents 7-3. Lincoln is 3-0 this year on neutral sites.
Don't be mislead by Alvarez's record. It played in the Gabilan Division. It is just one of two teams that beat Open Division finalist Watsonville this year.
