Open Division consolation bracket
Tuesday's game
No. 7 Palma (22-3) at No. 6 Half Moon Bay (25-3), 7 p.m.
What makes this consolation round game of the CCS Open Division playoffs important is the winner is going to get a higher seed in the State Northern California Division IV tournament.
The Chieftains and Half Moon Bay split two non-league games this year with Palma avenging the first loss with a 42-40 win in a tournament title game in Santa Cruz.
Palma's (22-3) only other setbacks this season are from the top two seeds in the Open Division in St. Francis and Serra.
The Cougars (25-3) only loss going into the Peninsula Athletic League tournament was to Palma on Dec. 30.
The Peninsula Athletic League North Division champions had rattled off 16 consecutive wins before falling in the league tournament to Menlo-Atherton and the Open Division to Bellarmine.
A matchup worth watching will be in the paint where CSU-East Bay bound Wyatt Maker will defend 6-foot-8 Austin Hilton, who averaged 14.1 points a game this year.
Palma has to keep 6-4 Tommy Nuno and his 12 plus points a game on its radar. Nuno had 19 points in the teams last meeting.
The Chieftains are coming off their worst offensive production of the season in scoring just 39 points against West Catholic Athletic League power Serra.
Jamaree Bouyea put up MVP type numbers this year for Palma, complimenting Maker inside. Nikhil Manimaram has given the team another option.
