For a program that hasn't attained a winning season in seven years, opening 2016 with four straight wins is an encouraging start for Hartnell.
Seven straight losses to begin last year saw the Panthers stagger to an 8-27 overall mark.
Hartnell has already won two games this year with timely hitting from North Salinas graduate Zack Foster and Palma alum Jacob Regester.
The Panthers have shown patients at the plate, earning 21 walks in the teams first four games, five from Pacific Grove product Wes Carswell, who is also hitting .308.
Yet, the biggest difference has been the pitching. The Panthers sport a 2.50 team earned run average, nearly four runs lower than last year.
Austin Lee tossed a gem in his starting debut, allowing no earned runs in six innings of work. He also earned a save in Hartnell's opener.
In fact, the bullpen has allowed just three earned runs in 16 innings of work.
