Carmel-King City girls hoops

The comeback team of the year could not have asked for a better scenario.
An argument can be made that King City is ahead of schedule in rebuilding its program -- that once upon a time made 33 straight postseason appearances.
That bright future is now as the Mustangs can grab a share of the Mission Trail Athletic League title tonight with a win at home over Carmel.
The reigning two-time champion Padres already clinched a share of the title, thanks to King City, who went on the road Tuesday and beat Stevenson.
Two final exams in a span of 48 hours is a tall order for a program rich in tradition, but oblivious to the pressure because of its youth.
Carmel had its way with the Mustangs in their first meeting, opening up a 20-plus point lead before coasting to a 10-point win.
The Padres have the reigning league MVP in Holly Whittaker while freshman Soana Laulotu and Quinn Bernal have been double-double machines.
King City has a squad that will be making its first postseason appearance in two years, a squad that has just two seniors and no one averaging over 11 points a game.
Seniors Aly Carroll and Graci Rojas have carried their weight for King City, both having big games down the stretch, with Carroll averaging 10.8 points a game.
Hayley Green has given King City an outside presence along with Rojas, while Megan Flores has been invaluable.
King City did a solid job in holding Whittaker to five points in the first meeting. But it didn't stop anyone else, and it didn't have an answer for Laulotu in the paint, or Ashlyn Davis.
