That 3-7 non-league record seems like a distant memory for King City.
The Mustangs are 5-0 in the Mission Trail Athletic League as they prepare to host surging Stevenson tonight.
While King City struggled in the preseason, the Pirates went 8-1 in non-league play before going on a 19-day hiatus between games.
The rust was evident in a league opening loss to Carmel. Since then, Stevenson has won four straight games by an average of 17 points a game.
A common opponent for both teams is Pacific Grove, who the Pirates defeated by nine, while King City posted a six-point win.
Ambreece Gaskins has been the center of attention for Stevenson all season as the sophomore has averaged nearly 20 points and eight steals a game.
Teammate Fauve Koontz has given the Pirates a presence in the paint while Antonia Malate is a third option.
The Mustangs attack has centered around a different player each game with Aly Carroll producing a handful of double-doubles. Megan Flores and Madison Owens have been clutch of late.
