CSUMB baseball

What began as a major rebuilding process five years ago has turned into the most successful men's program at CSUMB.
As Walt White begins his sixth season as the Otters manager, he's produced five straight seasons of 20 or more wins, including a school record 39 in 2013.
Since arriving at CSUMB, White has seen four players drafted by Major League Baseball teams and four others sign free agent contracts.
Make no mistake, the job is far from finished.
Now that the foundation has been set, chasing championships is the ultimate goal, even on a shoe-string budget.
White, whose squad went 32-20 last year, has four returning all-conference players, including Kevin Davidson and Justin Flores -- both of which were named to the all-region team last spring.
Davidson, the only player to start all 52 games last year at first base, led the Otters in homers with 10 while Flores was flawless in right field, hitting .308.
White has five returning players that hit over .300 last spring, including center fielder Will Rosado, four-year starting third baseman Matt Urakami and left fielder Chris Blanton, who hit .330.
Injuries crippled the Otters pitching staff last year in the second half of the season. White shored up one spot with the addition of left handed transfer Jared Koening, a former Aptos High hurler.
He will be joined in the rotation by Ryan Boydstun, who was 5-2 with a 3.68 earned run average last spring for the Otters.
The Otters were nearly unbeatable at home last year, going 16-4 in conference, and a respectable 11-9 on the road.
Of the teams 52 overall games last spring, 16 were decided by one run with CSUMB going 9-7.
