Carmel-Pacific Grove boys hoops

What a surprise.
The only two league champions the Mission Trail Athletic League has seen in the last nine years are undefeated going into their early season game Wednesday in Pacific Grove.
For the reigning two-time MTAL champion Breakers, they have won 14 straight league games since falling to Carmel last year.
Pacific Grove's only losses overall this year have come from Palma and Half Moon Bay, two teams that could end up in the CCS Open Division playoffs.
Arguably the two best players in the MTAL will be on the court in the Breakers Brad Sendell, the reigning league Most Valuable Player, and two-time league MVP John Stivers of Carmel
Because the two play completely different positions, it's unlikely either will guard the other. The 6-foot-5 Stivers and his 19.1 points will likely see Zack Miller or Chip Wagner on him.
Sendell and Jake Merenda have both found their range beyond the 3-point arc for the Breakers, as has Carmel 6-foot-5 forward Dylan Riley, who has 15 3-point goals.
Riley, who missed all of last year with a knee injury, has given the Padres another viable scoring option next to Stivers, averaging 15.1 points a night.
