Two boys basketball tournaments in Salinas tip off tonight, highlighting the first weekend of the season.
The annual Eagles Classic will feature eight teams, including Monte Vista, Pajaro Valley, North Salinas and host Alvarez.
Head coach Mark Haddan is bringing in four outside teams in Overfelt, San Francisco International, Robert Kennedy and KIPP of San Francisco.
The inaugural Jose Solis/Vantory Miles basketball tournament at Alisal will have a foreign taste to it as St. John's of New Zealand will take part in the three-day event.
Also slated to compete are Watsonville, St. Francis Catholic, Christopher, Soledad, Anzar, Seaside, and the host Trojans.
Two players to watch include Jessy Hurtado, who averaged over 18 points a game last year for Alisal, and Soledad's David Medeiros.
