A vision that began 17 years ago remains one of the biggest girls holiday basketball tournaments in the section with the annual four-day Monterey Bay Sweet 16 Holiday Classic at Hartnell College.
Sixteen prep teams from as far east as Fresno to South Torrance in southern California will compete in the event, which begins Saturday and runs through Dec. 30th.
The tournament was designed with half of its field being from out of the area to provide a little more flair to the event, and different competition for local teams prior to the start of league play.
Among the local teams taking part include reigning Pacific Division champion Notre Dame, Salinas, Alisal, Seaside and Marina.
