Four annual local basketball tournaments will highlight the weekend before Christmas, tipping off today and running through Saturday.
The annual Carmel Invitational will feature defending champion Salinas, Marina, Monterey, Seaside and the host Padres among the eight boys teams.
Carmel, behind three-time all-league forward John Stivers, has gotten off to a 4-0 start. Last season Salinas went to the State Nor Cal Division I tournament.
The annual Luis Scattini Memorial Tournament will include host Palma, as well as Alisal, Trinity and Stevenson.
The defending Gabilan Division champion Chieftains showcase CSU-East Bay bound Wyatt Maker, who is averaging a double-double this year.
The annual girls Alisal Winter Jam Classic will begin this afternoon, showcasing Salinas, King City, North County and the host Trojans among the eight teams taking part.
Alisal has reached the finals the last two years of the tournament, with the host Trojans winning it in 2013.
MPC will host the women's Monterey Peninsula Classic today, where you can catch a glimpse of yesterday's prep standouts now suiting up for the Lobos, including Daniela Villegas and Lillian Dawkins.
