Saturday's game
Central Coast Section Division V Championship
No. 1 Pacific Grove (10-2) at No. 2 Half Moon Bay (10-2) at Independence High, San Jose, 7 p.m.
Both teams have one Central Coast Section title to their credit, with the Cougars beating Seaside in the 2005 Small Division title game and Pacific Grove winning the Division IV title in 2001.
Half Moon Bay hasn't been back since. The Breakers have, reaching the finals in 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2013.
While injuries continue to stack up for Pacific Grove, so have the wins as the Breakers have won 10 or more games for the third straight year.
Last week's field goal by Noah Ryan with 1.8 seconds left capped a 9-0 run in the final 86 seconds for Pacific Grove.
The Cougars are averaging 37.5 points in the postseason. Over the course of the season, they scored 40 plus points in five games.
Matt Spigelman has gone over 1,000 yards rushing this year for the Cougars and has been the focal point of their attack all season.
"He's getting the ball in a variety of ways,'' Pacific Grove coach Chris Morgan said. "He is the guy you have to say is the key to their offense. And they have a big front line.''
Half Moon Bay has wins over Monterey and Carmel this year, with its setbacks coming from Terra Nova and Hillsdale.
Noah Cryns went over 1,000 yards rushing last week for Pacific Grove. Equally impressive was QB Colton Moore hitting all four of his pass attempts on the game winning drive.
The Breakers had two running backs go over 100 yards last week as Uche Ebo rushed for 108 yards while adding another 45 yards in pass receptions.
Pacific Grove has been resilient in the postseason. It's also undefeated this season in its true home jerseys.
