Santa Clara-North Salinas football

Friday's game
Central Coast Section Division IV playoffs
No. 6 Santa Clara (9-1) vs. No. 3 North Salinas (8-2) at Rabobank, 5 p.m.
These are arguably the two most improved teams in the CCS from last fall as Santa Clara has gone from 1-9 to 9-1 and the Vikings from 2-8 to 8-2.
North Salinas head coach Darren Spence was the head coach at Santa Clara from 2001-2004, where three current assistant coaches were players under him.
Both teams went undefeated in their respective leagues with Santa Clara capturing the El Camino Division and North Salinas winning the Pacific Division.
Both teams have wins over Alisal.
Sophomore quarterback Chris Brown has thrown for over 2,000 yards and 28 touchdowns this year for Santa Clara, with Pako Vehikite having caught 40 passes for eight touchdowns.
The Bruins big play receiver is Marquiese Shields, who has eight touchdowns on just 22 catches, averaging 25.8 yards a reception.
The numbers between these two teams are nearly identical of late. Santa Clara has outscored its last three opponents 146-31 while the Vikings have outscored three teams 138-29.
Tim Burkhardt has combined for over 2,000 passing and rushing yards for North Salinas, producing 22 touchdowns.
Five different receivers have touchdown catches, including Damon Diaz, who has a team high four for the Vikings.
Still, defense has dictated the tempo for North Salinas, who has six defensive touchdowns, two each from Ben Organista and Isaiah Covorubias.
