Friday's game
King City (4-5) at Gonzales (5-4), 7:30 p.m.
The oldest rivalry game in the county is once again a battle for pride - and some mega phone that has 80 plus years of results on it.
The hope was this game would be for a postseason berth. King City is out of contention and it is an extreme long shot for the Spartans after losing to Marina last week.
Gonzales can still record its first season above .500 in 12 years while King City will try and stretch its winning streak over its south county rivals to 12 straight.
Tight end Jarod Davis has been a beast for the Mustangs with 39 catches for nearly 700 yards and eight touchdowns this fall.
Fabian Acosta, who set a Gonzales school record earlier this year with six touchdowns in one game, has scored 16 on the season. Logan Gomez has over 2,000 passing and rushing yards.
The Spartans have outscored opponents 93-29 in the second quarter, relying on a defense anchored by linebacker Ryan Avila.
Gonzales is just 2-2 at home this year while three of King City's four wins have come on the road. This has the makings of a high scoring affair.
