Friday's game
Carmel (5-3) at King City (4-4), 7:30 p.m.
For the first time in nine years, the Padres have a loss in the Mission Trail Athletic League to a team not named Pacific Grove.
After 132 games, Carmel was held out of the end zone last week in a loss to Soledad. Prior to that, it was averaging 48 points a game in MTAL play.
King City's defense has struggled of late in stopping opponents, having given up 98 points in its last three games -- two of those resulting in losses at home.
Two of the areas best tight ends will be on display in Carmel's John Stivers and the Mustangs Jarod Davis, who has eight of the teams nine touchdowns receptions this year.
King City, who is still alive in the postseason chase, has to be concerned with stopping 225-pound tailback Covossay Winhdam. Last week it gave up 245 yards on the ground to one back.
This is a must win for Carmel if it has any aspirations of gaining a share of the league title. A loss could also potentially put its playoff hopes in jeopardy.
