Wednesday's game
Division I
No. 11 Alvarez (21-13) at No. 6 Piedmont Hills (24-9), 7 p.m.
The Pacific Division champion Eagles are in the postseason for the first time. The reward is a date with the Blossom Valley Mount Hamilton Athletic League champions.
The Pirates are 10-0 at home this year. Among their 24 overall wins are decisions over Alisal and Salinas in tournaments.
Four players have over 150 kills for Piedmont Hills, including 5-foot-11 outside hitter Ivy Johnson, who has 235.
Nhean Marquez has recorded nearly 700 assists this fall for the Eagles, feeding the ball to Daniela Gonzalez, Brandy Hernandez and Juliana Adams.
Alodia Faytaren has been sensational in the back row for Alvarez with nearly 500 digs. Adams has 60 blocks this fall.
Getting touches at the net is critical for the Eagles, who broke the single season school record for wins this year with 21.
