Friday's game
Gonzales (4-2) at Pacific Grove (5-1), 7:30 p.m.
While defending league champion Pacific Grove has had a target on its back all fall, Fabian Acosta put one on his after a school record six touchdown effort last week for Gonzales.
Acosta doubled his touchdown total on the season last week, returning two punts 75 plus yards for touchdowns, rushing for two and catching two scoring tosses.
At 4-2, the Spartans aren't sneaking up on anyone this year. Throw out the Carmel debacle and the defense, anchored by Isaac Madrigal and Ryan Avila, has allowed 40 points all season.
Rather than calling last week's 7-6 win over Stevenson a wake-up call, how about persevering in the heat of the moment for Pacific Grove, who stopped a two-point conversation to prevail.
The Breakers defense has dominated MTAL play behind Foster Smith, Sam Fernstermaker and Tyler Hawes. For the offense to click, they need all 11 players on the same page.
Colton Moore has been effective throwing the ball, having tossed just one interception in 53 attempts for Pacific Grove. A third of his completions have gone to Kane Miller.
