North Salinas-Santa Cruz football

Friday's game
North Salinas (1-1) at Santa Cruz (0-3), 7 p.m.
The Cardinals have not fared well against teams from the Pacific Division, having gone 0-2 to this point.
Last year Santa Cruz caught the Vikings napping, running off the games first 21 points in the first 21 minutes, then hung on for a 21-14 win.
North Salinas' defense has returned an interception and fumble for touchdowns this year, Two more  turnovers have lead to touchdowns.
Quarterback Tim Burkhardt has accounted for 107 for North Salinas' 143 plays, with 43 carries and 64 passing attempts.
All three of Santa Cruz's losses this fall have been by seven points or less, giving up a touchdown as time expired in one loss. Two of the teams it has fallen to are a combined 6-1.
Donnie Broadway has provided some highlight runs this fall for the Cardinals while Connor Iles has completed over 50 percent of his passes.
The Vikings are still looking for their first points in the third quarter. Establishing the ground game early would keep an opportunist defense more rested.
