Welsh, a redshirt freshmen for the Mustangs, opened the year by running 26.41.3 over 8K, averaging 5:21.1 per mile.
Welsh reached the state meet in both cross country and track as a senior at Monterey, rewriting the school's 1,600 and 3,200 meter track records.
