Saturday's game
Gonzales (2-0) at St. Francis Catholic (1-1), 2 p.m.
The Sharks Mission Trail Athletic League tour continues as they face their third team in three weeks, having split the first two games.
Playing an independent schedule for the third straight year, four of St. Francis' 10 games are against teams in the MTAL.
What gets your attention about Gonzales is its defense, which has allowed just seven points, and has not given up a point in its last seven quarters.
Jesus Mendoza has intercepted two passes in two games. Isaac Madrigal has three sacks while Ryan Avila has compiled 20 tackles and a sack.
Quarterback Logan Gomez has accounted for nearly 500 yards in offense and five touchdowns for Gonzales, throwing for 332 yards and two touchdowns.
Gonzales is 2-0 for the first time since 2003, the last time it sniffed the playoffs. Last fall it erupted for a season high 55 points against St. Francis in snapping a 17 game losing streak.
