Football Tour IX (Gonzales)

Gonzales (5-5, 3-4)
It wasn't about erasing the past as much as it was about bringing it back.
Once upon a time one of the oldest football programs in the county was a power.
Gonzales did two things last year to create a new atmosphere.
It snapped a 17-game losing streak and posted its first .500 or better season in 11 years.
For an encore, the Spartans are pushing the envelope. Talk during a recent practice centered around not being satisfied and staying hungry.
Those that are back got a taste of what it feels like to have success. No one is interested in taking a step back.
The Spartans have some offensive parts, namely fullback Ryan Avila and quarterback Logan Gomez in the backfield, as well as Fabian Acosta in the slot.
Avila will also be the heart of the defense along with Isaac Madrigal, who is coming off an eight-sack season.
While a league title may be a stretch, the Spartans believe they can compete with anyone in their league.
By the way. The only team to win a Mission Trail Athletic League title over the last 14 years not named Pacific Grove or Carmel is Gonzales.
