Football Tour IV (Carmel)

Carmel (8-4, 6-1)
For the first time in six years -- or since Golden Anderson took over as the head football coach -- the Padres didn't win the Mission Trail Athletic League title.
For the second consecutive year, Carmel was eliminated in the postseason after giving up 50 or more points.
While the Padres are replacing a three-year starting quarterback who accounted for 119 touchdowns, the focus in the offseason was on rebuilding the defense.
A new system will be in place this fall as the Padres look to shore up a weakness. One way to help your defense is to control the ball offensively.
While Carmel has made a habit of scoring quickly with its aerial attack, the ground game could be its strength this fall with the return of junior running back Covossay Windham.
Last fall Windham rushed for nearly 1,600 yards on a 225-pound frame. He sat out the second half in four of those games.
Windham has a wall to run behind in four-year linemen Patrick Hungate and Sione Fiefia, as well as tight end John Stivers, who caught 64 passes last year.
It's easy to get complacent when you're dominating a league. It's clear Carmel has not been afraid to test the waters with its non-league schedule.
This year is no exception with defending Central Coast Section Open Division champion Sacred Heart Prep coming on Sept. 26.
