Monterey football

The search for a new coach is over after Monterey named former Wilcox coach Dan Brown to the position a few hours ago.
Brown has had success at each stop, taking Del Mar, Sobrato and Wilcox to the postseason during head coaching stints.
The 52-year-old, who stepped down at Wilcox in January, had taken the team to the playoffs three straight years, falling in the D2 semifinals in 2012 to Los Gatos and 2014 to Mitty.
A 1981 Oak Grove graduate, Brown's offensive coordinator was former Packers and Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren.
He is expected to meet the team this week.
Brown wants to bring a version of the West Coast offense to Monterey. The question is will he have a quarterback to run the attack?

Great hire for Monterey. Coach Brown is a very good coach. Interesting that he wants to run a west coast offense when he ran the option at Wilcox. I would think they will stick with the option as main offense but then implement a passing game as well. Like JD said the big question is who will be the QB. If Aldrete plays (i would imagine he does) then they are set. If he decides not to then they may be in trouble. I know Aldrete loves football though and I cant see him not playing. But will Coach Brown want a kid who dedicates all of the offseason to baseball leading his team?

The new should allow Aldrete play if he commits to practicing and playing. I remember when Brandon Crawford (yes Giant's shortstop) was a senior in high school at a local high school where I live and he was a national elite prep baseball player, and still played QB. He was a very QB (maybe potential to play for a mid-major program in college) and he lead them to a very successful season. I think as long as Aldrete is working on conditioning and practice when he can and at least commit to learning new offense he should be able to play. Players are only suppose to work on strength and conditioning related to the school (yes I know they often play 7-on-7 and camps, etc.). The point is as long as he can commit when he has to , there is no reason the coach shouldn't allow it. There are plenty of multi-sport players. There is no question Aldrete is a committed student athlete, and would be a huge impact with either decision to play or not.
