The King City distance ace qualified for Friday's CIF State track and field championships in Clovis after finishing second at the Central Coast Section finals in the 1,600.
Bonilla popped off a three second personal best in the metric mile to off-set last year's disappointing fourth place finish at the section finals.
A three-time MTAL 1,600 champion, Bonilla went to the state championships in the fall in cross country, helping King City to a CCS team title.
