Candidates for Athlete of the Year

Edgar Bonilla, King City

 Not only did Bonilla defend his Mission Trail Athletic League cross country title, but he helped his squad to MTAL and Central Coast Section team titles.

The senior distance ace closed a chapter in his career by finishing eighth at the CIF State Division IV cross country finals, helping King City to a second place team finish -- the highest finish in school history.
Returning to the track for the spring, Bonilla defended his MTAL 1,600 meter title and won the 3,200. He erased last year’s disappointment at the CCS track finals by finishing second in the 1,600 to qualifying for state.
Bonilla is the first King City athlete to qualify for a state meet in two different sports.
