Diego Leon

The sophomore distance ace is putting himself in elite company at Hartnell College.
Using a 21 second improvement in the 5,000 meter run, Leon broke world class marathoner Daniel Tapia's Panther school record, clocking 14:38.64.
Leon, who prepped at Anzar High, has a 12 second lead in Northern California, as he takes aim at a state track title later this spring. He already has a state qualifying mark in the 1,500.
Yet, his best event could be the 10,000.
A state cross country champion for Hartnell last fall, Leon is headed to Montana State next year on a cross country and track scholarship.
Not only has Leon surpassed Tapia's record, but he also blew past former Panther Cristian Soratos, who finished second at the NCAA Indoor championships in the mile for Montana State.
