CSUMB baseball

It might be the quietest 10 game winning streak in the nation.
Simply put, no one is talking about it -- at least not yet.
Since starting the season 2-4, CSUMB has rattled off 10 straight wins - including its first eight in the California Collegiate Athletic League.
That's the best conference start in school history going into today's 2 p.m. home game with Cal Poly, Pomona.
In eight conference games, the Otters have scored 80 runs. Last year it took them 14 games to get to 80 runs.
Even in the Otters championship year in 2013, they started conference play 6-2.
Yet, the difference this spring might be pitching.
Head coach Walt White found a gem in San Benito High graduate Greg Steinbeck, who is 4-0 with a 1.32 earned run average in his first collegiate season.
The real surprise, though, might be senior Cody Gappa, who was recruited in 2014 as an infielder, but is 2-0 with a 1.80 earned run average on the hill for the Otters.
At the plate, former North County and MPC product Ty Morris is hovering around the .300 mark, and is third on the team in runs batted in with 13 in 16 games.
First baseman Kevin Davidson, who was a medical redshirt last year after spending the previous season at UC Riverside, is hitting .322 with team high's in homers (4) and runs batted in (20).
As a team, the Otters are hitting .321 with eight players over .300.
