Friday the 13th couldn’t have been better for Cristian Soratos.
The former Salinas High and Hartnell College distance ace won his heat Friday in the mile at the NCAA Indoor track and field national championships.Soratos, a senior at Montana State, was clocked in 3:57.94 in the mile, the fastest time ever run in a qualifying heat at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The finals are slated for Saturday at 4:10 p.m. at the University of Arkansas.
Soratos has dominated the indoor season, capturing the Big Sky Conference 800 (1:51.33) and mile (4:07.28) last week.
He has the top mark in the nation in the indoor mile, running a Montana State school record 3:55.27 in February in Seattle.
Soratos was recently named the Mountain Region Athlete of the Year by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
