400 meter revival

More than two decades have past since twin brothers Alvin and Calvin Harrison made the 400 meters an attractive event, leading North Salinas to a team state title in 1993.
Could the 400 be having a revival 22 years later with the Harrison name?
Shraee Harrison opened some eyes when he glided through the 400 meters in 52.20 on San Benito's dirt track last week.
Yes, this is the son of two-time Olympic gold medalist Alvin Harrison.
Granted, the younger Harrison is a few strides away from coming close to what his dad ran in high school.
Keep in mind, though, that Sharee was unchallenged and on a dirt track in March. One more thing. The junior did not run track for San Benito last year.
Now just because his dad and uncle were world class 400 meter runners doesn't mean Sharee will be one as well.
In fact, the 400 might not be his best event. The younger Harrison also ran 22.74 on dirt in the 200. But if chooses to take the sport seriously, the 400 appears to have the biggest upside for him.
There's one more newcomer to the 400 this spring that could make some noise in Palma senior Kasey Cory.
A CCS finalist last year in the 200, Cory blistered the track in his first 400 in 51.58 in a dual against Alisal on an all-weather track.
Moving up to the 400 means Cory will likely drop the 100, where there are an abundance of sprinters within a stride of each other.
Getting a kid to believe the more grueling 400 is a better event for them than the glamour of the 100 is not always an easy sell.

Palma should be very good in the 100M and 4x100 and 200M at least over the next couple years. Lots of strong underclass sprinters that all also play football.
