The defending Gabilan Division champion Spartans run of 22 straight playoff appearances is in serious jeopardy.
At 1-6, Seaside would have to win its final five games to reach the .500 mark in league play. It did not have a .500 non-league record, the criteria to apply for the postseason.
With two straight wins, the Spartans have shown improvement, avenging an earlier season loss to San Benito behind RJ Johnson.
Now comes Monterey, who beat them by 41 points on Jan. 12
The Toreadores have been snake-bitten this year, having gone 0-4 in games decided by three points or less.
With all the attention surrounding Monterey's Kobe Ordonio and Michael Armstead, junior guard Jordan Eugenio erupted for a career high 31 points last week.
