The defending Mission Trail Athletic League champion Breakers have caught fire.
But is it too late?
With five games left in the season, Pacific Grove sits two games behind unbeaten Carmel going into tonight's rematch.
The Breakers have won six straight games since falling 34-32 at Carmel on Jan. 14. A win tonight would move them to within a game of first.
But Pacific Grove doesn't control its fate.
The Padres have been a machine in the MTAL behind Holly Whittaker and Amber Clark, both of which are averaging over 12 points a game.
During Pacific Grove's climb back into contention, three of its six wins have been by three points or less.
Jessica Matthews and Allie Patton have been demons on defense while supplying the Breakers with an offensive infusion along with Mackenzie Bell.
Pacific Grove's defense has been filthy of late, holding three teams under 30 points. Carmel has outscored the opposition 195-114 in the third quarter.
