Alvarez will have to find someone to handle 5-8 guard Jeremy Ishimaru, who averaged 19.8 points and 4.1 assists a game for Independence while 6-3 post Charles Rosen tallied 14.8 points.
It became a scoring by committee approach for the Eagles this year after losing two starters before league play.
Bernard Gomez and Deryck Benting gave Alvarez an outside presence, combining for 60 3-point goals this season. Production inside will be critical.
Independence has the largest high school enrollment in the Central Coast Section.
