Palma-Monterey hoops

 You can make the argument that both teams have altered their identity this season.
 The Toreadores believe defense will resurrect them. Defense has always been Palma's belief.
 Playing defense in the cramped confines of Monterey's century old gym is not a simple task as both teams open Gabilan Division play tonight.
 The new look Toreadores found that chemistry at the end of the preseason, winning their final three games behind senior guard Michael Armstead.
 Palma is coming at you with a variety of weapons, including 6-foot-8 junior post Wyatt Maker, who made two all-tournament teams during the Christmas Holidays.
 Maker has been a force in first year coach Kelly Lopez's system, which opens up the perimeter for sophomore Jamaree Bouyea, who is also running the offense.
 That stingy Chieftains defense will be challenged by Monterey sophomore guard Kobe Ordonio, who has 26 3-point goals in 10 games. He also has 28 assists in his last eight games.
