Time in the NBA’s D-League is paying dividends in Orlando Johnson’s bid to get back to the show.
The 25-year-old Palma graduate is averaging nearly 17 points a game in the Austin Spurs' last 10 games, spending nearly 33 minutes a game on the hardwood.Johnson has improved his shot from the field, hitting just under 49 percent. He’s also connecting on 88 percent from the free-throw line, while pulling down 4.6 rebounds a game and doling out 3.1 assists for Austin.
The 6-foot-5 Johnson spent most his first two seasons in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers before being released, and then playing briefly for Sacramento last year. He led Palma to a spot in the State Northern California Division IV quarterfinals in 2007.
