Cristian Soratos opened the indoor track season for Montana State by running the fastest college time in the mile in the nation, clocking 3:56.87.Soratos, who prepped at Salinas High and ran at Hartnell College, came within a stride of breaking the school record, earning a Big Sky Conference qualifying mark in the process.
The effort earned Soratos the Big Sky Conference Athlete of the Week.
Last spring Soratos won the Big Sky Conference 1,500 meter title (3:43.73) and was the only athlete from Montana State to reach the NCAA Regionals.
A teammate of Soratos' in track is former North County High and Hartnell College pole vaulter Austin Decker.
