While a title is likely out of Stevenson's grasp, it can make some noise in the second half of the Mission Trail Athletic League season and have a say in who wins the title.
The Pirates, who are 3-1 in their last four games, host reigning four-time league champion Carmel tonight.
Stevenson is one of only two teams in the MTAL to have beaten the Padres in the last four years in league play.
Of course, the Pirates have to figure out how to contain two-time league MVP John Stivers, who has eight straight double-doubles for Carmel.
The 6-foot-4 Stivers is averaging over 18 points and 12 rebounds a game. But you can't put all of your attention on him because Alex Michel and Connor Marden have surfaced as scoring options.
What Stevenson has done well this year is knock down shots from the perimeter. In Wednesday's win over Gonzales, Parker Olin and Jack Burgess each hit six shots from beyond the 3-point arc.
That's 12 extra points from the field.
Stevenson fell by 12 to Carmel in its league opener.
