Monterey County All-Star Football Game
Friday at Rabobank Stadium, 7 p.m.
A look at Team Salvation Army, guided by Salinas coach Steve Goodbody.
The first thing that gets your attention about this roster is the amount of players coming from Palma and Salinas, as 21 of the 32 all stars suiting up come from those two schools.
Then again, these are the co-champions of the Gabilan Division, with Salinas having reached the CCS Division I finals last year.
As for names that get your attention, you have to start with record-setting Salinas quarterback Zach McDermott, who threw for over 2,000 yards while rushing for nearly 800.
McDermott will have a dynamic backfield with teammate Bruce Leighton, who rushed for over 1,100 yards this past fall, and Pacific Grove's Jason Leach, who piled up nearly 1,800 yards and 22 touchdowns.
In a game that often features a lot of passing, Rigo Marquez of Salinas caught 46 passes last season while Brian Rosas of Gonzales grabbed 32 passes.
Goodbody's offensive line will move people with the likes of Palma's Dylan Antonetti and Trevor Seeley and Salinas' Leland Dudley and Brock McMillen.
Defensively, Salinas' Jeremiah Garcia and Palma's Xavier Woods will anchor the linebacking corps while the secondary will include Palma's Joe Coffelt and Stevenson's Kendrick Pearson.
