The Mariners fell on hard times last year, going winless in the Mission Trail Athletic League and 1-20 overall.
While Marina was competitive in the first half in most of its games last season, opponents outscored them 438-245 in the second half.
Resurrecting the program starts with defense. Marina can be competitive if it can limit teams on the offensive side of the ball, and cut down on turnovers.
The Mariners have virtually a brand new lineup on the court this year, starting with Jayvon Jackson, who has led them in scoring early in the season.
