SLV-Pacific Grove football

CCS Division IV playoffs
Friday's game
No. 7 San Lorenzo Valley (8-2) at No. 2 Pacific Grove (9-1), 7 p.m.
A concern for the Breakers is an emotional letdown after a gut-wrenching, title-clinching win over Carmel.
Rivalry games take a lot out of kids mentally.
San Lorenzo Valley came out of nowhere this year, bouncing back from a 1-9 season to finish with an 8-2 mark, losing only to Aptos in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League.
Quarterback Isaac Newberry has thrown for over 1,500 yards and 18 touchdowns this year for SLV while tailback Nate Gentry is a few yards shy of 1,000.
Owners of six straight wins since altering the offense, the Mission Trail Athletic League champion Breakers piled up nearly 400 rushing yards last week.
Tailback Jason Leach has rushed for just under 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging over 10 yards each time he touches the ball.
Pacific Grove has made a habit out of dominating opponents in the first half, outscoring them 217-68 -- with 28 of those points coming in its only loss.
Eche Ebo and James Donlon have come off the edges to produce a combined 22 sacks while Keenan Selbicky has been a menace in the middle of that defense.
