CCS Division I playoffs
Friday's game
No. 7 Santa Teresa (5-5) at No. 2 Alvarez (7-3), 7 p.m.
Alvarez has rode the arm and legs of quarterback Edric Gamble all fall, as he has rushed for nearly 1,200 yards, and has rushed or thrown for 23 touchdowns.
Gamble was held in check last week by Palma and the results saw the Eagles offense produce just six points. It is important to get him unleashed early.
Don't be misled by Santa Teresa's fifth-place finish in the Mount Hamilton Division. It is a league comparable to the Gabilan Division, with champion Oak Grove going to the Open.
Alvarez's defense gave up 96 points in its seven wins, but allowed 126 points in three losses. The Eagles are 18-4 in their last 22 games -- with two of those losses coming at home.
