Palma football

Normally a loss in the postseason means you're turning in uniforms.
That's not the case for Palma, which will go into the consolation bracket of the Open Division after falling 14-7 to Valley Christian.
The reality, though, is it doesn't mean anything this year other than pride.
 It's an exhibition, nothing more.
Next year will be different if the CIF passes the proposal to let the consolation winner of the Open Division into the mix for a Northern California play-in game in its respective division.
Of course, that's assuming there is an Open Division next year.
Meanwhile Palma head coach Jeff Carnazzo has his work cut out next week, trying to get his squad geared up for a meaningless consolation game.
If you have to show up, you might as well make the most of it and build some momentum for next year.
Because Palma will be back for a 32nd straight playoff appearance in 2015. And it will be better.

Milpitas has a line that is bigger than some NFL lines...absolutely huge line. Very surprising they lost to Bellarmine. Neither Salinas nor Monterey would have hung with Valley Christian as did Palma tonight. Crazy you don't have them ranked #1. Salinas is a good team, but the D1 playoff is inferior to the Open Division. Palma brought quite a few JVs up and they also have lots of underclass that will be coming back. Overall playing a top football team is great experience. VC clobbered Bells who defeated Milpitas in Overtime. Milpitas clobbered VC. Who is better? Bells? I can tell you VC will defeat Bells by at least 14 next week.

Should be noted there is rumor that both teams are releasing any players that want to go on to their winter sports.

It would be a good time to evaluate for all the teams going into the consolation bracket what they have going for next year as John is suggesting.

Hats off to that VC team. Those Johnson kids are the real deal! A one touchdown loss to a WCAL champion shows that Palma is hands down the best in monterey county. That being said, awesome to see the MBL Gabilan go 3 for 4 last night with Salinas, Hollister, and Alvarez all pummeling their competition! D1 is especially weak this year, and will most likely be won by someone south of San Jose. Here's hoping Monterey takes down a tough St.Ignatius today. Aldrete is a beast

No shocker Carnazzo is letting his players go to winter sports. This game is meaningless. It would suck to see a kid get hurt in a pointless game.
VC was clearly the more talented team last night. Collin Johnson was the game changer. Take away those 3 pass plays(2 to Johnson and the 1 to Valdez) and this is a 0-0 game. Both defenses proved to be the real deal and top in the section.
Nice to see Monterey Co represent in the playoffs even if it is in the weak D1 and DIV division. All the divisions are weaker due to the Open. I think monterey will hold their own agaisnt SI. I dont see them winning but with bad weather SI passing game could struggle. Akili Jones is the real deal as well. Good luck to the teams the rest of the way.
