Monterey-St. Ignatius football

CCS Division III playoffs
Saturday's game
No. 5 Monterey (8-2) at No. 4 St. Ignatius, San Francisco (5-5), 1 p.m.
The Toreadores' only two setbacks this season came from two teams that shared the Gabilan Division title.
Yet, after a 6-0 start, Monterey went just 2-2 down the stretch.
And it cost them as the Toreadores drew a West Catholic Athletic League opponent on the road for the first round.
Last season St. Ignatius snuck into the postseason with a 2-8 record, yet justified it by reaching the Division III finals before falling to Aptos.
Nine of the 10 teams the Vikings faced this season are in the postseason. Three of their losses were by three points or less to Valley Christian, Bellarmine and Mitty.
Quarterback Ryan Hagfeldt has thrown for nearly 1,700 yards for St. Ignatius, while the defense has created 12 turnovers.
Akili Jones tuned up for the postseason for the Toreadores with a 178-yard effort in the regular season finale, pushing him over 1,000 yards. The junior has rushed for 640 yards in his last three games.
