Monterey-Seaside football

Saturday's game
Monterey (7-2) at Seaside (1-8), 1 p.m.
For just the second time in 10 years, the Spartans will be home for the playoffs, suffering just their third losing season in 15 years.
The Toreadores have had an extra week to gear up for their biggest rival. Hopefully it was a week to  clean up the mental mistakes for the postseason.
Akili Jones is chasing a 1,000 yard rushing season for Monterey while quarterback Carter Aldrete has accounted for 19 touchdowns through the air or on the ground.
The second quarter has been big for Monterey this year, having outscored the opposition 141-23.
Monterey is 6-0 when Ryan Reynolds gets into the end zone -- 1-2 when he doesn't.
Seaside scored 28 points in its one win, 34 points total in eight losses. A bright spot has been the effort of Dariyn Choates on defense.
