That 6-0 start for the Toreadores was so promising, yet a distant memory on a long bus ride home from San Francisco.
Monterey is out of the CCS Division III playoffs, falling to St. Ignatius much like it did in two other losses -- in the fourth quarter after having a first-half lead.
Mental mistakes were costly in both league losses. This time Monterey just got beat by a better team in St. Ignatius, a member of the West Catholic Athletic League.
Oh, Monterey had a chance to potentially force overtime when it drove down to the 13-yard line with roughly a minute left.
And for a split second, it appeared they scored before officials ruled that the receiver did not have possession of the ball in the end zone as he went out of bounds.
A painful way to end the season. Perhaps motivation for next year.

Tough for Monterey to lose that game, but they played to the end against a very good team. SI's record doesn't indicate the strength of that team. Plus SI is very tough at home. The Monterey team should not hold their heads down. That was a gutty performance.
