Monte Vista-Pacific Grove football

CCS Division IV semifinals
Friday's game
No. 4 Monte Vista (9-2) at No. 2 Pacific Grove (10-1), 7 p.m.
A rematch of a Week 2 battle, the Mustangs gave Pacific Grove all they could handle before falling 20-14 at Monte Vista.
Monte Vista kept tailback Jason Leach in check, limiting him to a season low 49 yards. Of course, Leach did return a kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown, ultimately the difference in the game.
This game will also be on the Breakers fast synthetic surface rather than Monte Vista's slow damp grass field.
Leach has been unconscious in his last two games with over 500 rushing and receiving yards and six touchdowns. He was, however, noticeably limping after Friday's win over San Lorenzo Valley.
Monte Vista has two backs that can create havoc on the opposition, with D'Shawn Hopkins having rushed for over 100 yards in two of his last three games.
Quarterback Ryan Sphon has thrown for over 1,000 yards for the Mustangs, who have won four straight games. Both of Monte Vista's losses this year were to league champions.
The Breakers defense, anchored by Eche Ebo and Cameron Cuellar, has 31 sacks this year and has forced 25 turnovers.
