Saturday's game
Division II
Carmel (17-9) vs. St. Ignatius (14-8) at Sacred Heart Prep, Atherton, 10:45 a.m.
The Padres did it again, knocking off perennial league power Soquel in the tournament title game for the second time in three years to earn a high seed in the Division II playoffs.
Now Carmel faces a bigger giant in West Catholic Athletic League power St. Ignatius today in the quarterfinals in what could be looked upon as a redemption match.
Last year the Vikings knocked Carmel out of the postseason with a 14-7 win in the quarterfinals.
The Padres are riding a wave of emotion into the CCS playoffs, having won their last four matches, two by one goal over two teams that finished ahead of them in the league standings.
Bret Luch has been the team's sniper in the water with Wyatt Milne providing a second option. Kevin Auger has been unselfish as a distributor while creating havoc on defense.
Since inserted between the pipes, goalie Carter Whitaker has been solid.
