Salinas football

I felt Salinas had something to build off of two weeks ago in a heartbreaking 21-14 loss to defending CCS Division III champion Aptos.
Now it has a confidence builder going into Friday's 3:30 p.m. battle with reigning state Division IV runner-up Sacred Heart Prep of Atherton.
While Salinas is still getting a grasp of its new look offense, it sure looked like it was running on all cylinders last Saturday when erupting for 61 points in a blowout at Carmel.
Salinas head coach Steve Goodbody has always wanted to incorporate an aerial attack since arriving on campus nine years ago.
Just look at what he did and accomplished at his previous stop in Idaho.
Now he has the personnel to add a little flavor to the offense, starting with senior quarterback Zach McDermott.
At his current pace, McDermott will shatter all of Salinas' passing records.
More importantly this brutal non-league schedule, which includes two CCS champions and four teams that posted 10 or more wins last year, has not derailed Salinas' progress.

Salinas has a shot in this game against Sacred Heart Prep. SHP plays very good defense and QB is good with excellent receivers, but also missing their all state player and team leader Ben Burr-Kirven, RB/LB on both sides of the ball. If Salinas plays great defense and executes balanced offense, they should have a good shot in this game. Last year's game 25-14 to a very strong team should be closer this year if the Cowboys execute.
