Like a perfect game in baseball, an undefeated season in football, or a record breaking season in basketball, North Salinas is putting together a dream season in field hockey.
The perennial powers of the Mission Trail Athletic League have been flawless as a team in league play, having outscored four opponents 38-0 this year.
Two of the Vikings scores read more like a football score, having produced 14 and 12 goals in one game.
No team has ever gone through a league season without having allowed a goal, although North Salinas gave up just three last year in league play.
Granted there are still 10 games left in the league season. But this defense has been filthy. And when called upon, goalie Sofia Cuentas has been sensational between the pipes with 35 saves.
At its current pace, North Salinas will shatter the school record for goals. Jocelyn Guerrero has 13 goals and nine assists while Elizabeth Alcala and Alyssa Labrador have combined for 21 goals.
Ten different players have produced goals for North Salinas, who has 50 overall in nine games. Last year it produced 72 in 19 games.
