 Three years removed from a Peninsula Athletic League title, the Cougars have struggled the last two years, posting 1-9 and 3-7 records.
 Monterey, which has finished second to Palma in the Gabilan Divison the last two years, will not abandoned its running game with the return of junior tailback Akili Jones.
 However, the Toreadores could rewrite passing records this season with junior quarterback Carter Aldrete lighting up the night sky.
 The two teams last met in 2008 with Monterey going up to Half Moon Bay and hanging on for a 13-10 win.
 Monterey has won eight or more games four straight years. Last year's losses came from two league champions, a CCS finalist and a State Division IV finalist.
 Half Moon Bay won a CCS Division IV title in 2005, defeating Seaside 14-6.
