Locals in the NFL

A list of former county athletes playing in the NFL.

Mason Foster, Seaside: Beginning his third year at Tampa Bay, the inside linebacker was a demon on defense last fall, returning one interception for a highlight reel touchdown.

Carl Nicks, North Salinas, Hartnell: Bothered by injuries for much of his first two years in Tampa, Nicks is a two-time Pro Bowl guard, helping New Orleans to a Super Bowl four years ago.

Evan Smith, Salinas: Could form two-fifths of the Tampa Bay offensive line at center along with Nicks at guard, coming over as a free agent from Green Bay.

Kassim Osgood, North Salinas: The willingness to play special teams has turned into a 12-year NFL career for the 49ers veteran, who was a three-time Pro Bowler in San Diego.

David Fales, Palma, MPC: The rookie quarterback will battle for the backup job in Chicago after setting countless passing records at San Jose State.

Ty Powell, Seaside, MPC: Drafted in 2013 by the Seahawks, the outside linebacker will look to make an impression in training camp with Buffalo.

Kiero Small, Hartnell: Chosen in the seventh round by the Super Bowl champion Seahawks, the former Junior College All-American linebacker will look to make the team as a fullback.
