No one can suggest Monterey has a soft non-league schedule this season. The game that gets your attention is Menlo-Atherton, who comes to town on Sept. 26.
Last year the Bears were 8-4, knocking off Oak Grove in the playoffs. Two of their losses came from Terra Nova and Sacred Heart Prep.
Monterey will also host Division I finalist San Benito on Oct. 10 and close the season on Nov. 14 at rival Seaside.
